Altruism assumes a tolerant attitude to others’ vices and shortcomings, an unselfish sacrifice of personal gain for the sake of general well-being. At first glance, such beliefs seem correct. It seems that such relationships are the basis of human civilization. But, as popular wisdom says, "a honey tongue, a heart of gall." It is this proverb that characterizes the altruist the best way.
Altruism and self-development
First of all, the altruistic mindset suggests that criticism is bad. Any comment made to someone is certainly taken as an insult. Let's look at a specific example of the consequences of such an attitude.
A child goes to art school. He is struggling with such a discipline as an academic drawing. The teacher gives him low marks and criticizes his works. From the point of view of altruism, the teacher behaves terribly towards the student, injuring his psyche. He should praise the child, and not scold him - then his student will definitely become a genius painter.
But great painters themselves were very critical, rewrote their paintings several times, starting from scratch. They were not satisfied with their works and tried to make them better - and as a result created masterpieces.
Altruism condemns criticism. There is no personal growth without sound criticism. Altruism leads to degradation.
Altruism and self-esteem
Altruists often like to hide behind a quote from the Bible - "love your neighbor as yourself." Moreover, the emphasis is made on the first half of the statement. According to the altruist, self-love is something bad. Christianity itself is presented as the basis of the altruistic morality.
This clearly shows perversion of the original meaning of the phrase. It means one should treat well himself first.
If a person has a low self-esteem, then he will consider himself unworthy of a high salary, an interesting trip, material wealth. Moreover, such a person will always be unhappy. If most of people in the society are like this, the society will not be successful.
Altruism leads to poverty and depression.
Altruism as a destroyer of civilization
All that is created by man is created as a result of selfish impulses. At first it was a necessity for him to protect, feed and warm himself, then to make the conditions of his life more comfortable. Man invented something new, because the former did not satisfy his needs. Altruism perverts the concepts of criticism and selfishness, exposing them as something terrible.
Each of us is a personality with high integrity, capable of dealing with available resources. For this, people are given the ability to rational thinking and creativity. Such self-sufficiency has helped humanity survive for centuries, although mankind has always had enough resources for that. And altruism questions self-sufficiency, calling for assistance when it is not required. The consequence of this behavior is unreasonable squandering on one hand and indefatigable consumption on the other.
Altruism is worse than suicide, because it opposes the foundations of civilization itself.
Harm to economy
When the whole society adopts the moral of altruism, it always ends sadly. USSR is a good example of that.
In the Soviet society, the improvement of one's own material situation was considered as something bad, while giving away personal gain was taken as good. As a result, huge financial resources went as a "help" to friendly states. This led to gradual depletion of the Soviet economy and, as a result, to the collapse of the entire system.
It is worth noting that representatives of the party elite who spread such beliefs were not seen in altruism themselves, although they had access to budget resources. This hints at the idea that a prudent and cunning person may hide behind the mask of an altruist, who decided to withdraw the other for money using pathetic phrases.
New Entrepreneurship Philosophy
The one striving to self-development and increasing of comfort in his life, works hard to achieve his goal. He will not put his eye on someone else's property and scatter his own, because he knows the value of things. Nothing gets for nothing, everything requires an investment of time and energy.
The new management philosophy is based on the following principles:
- respect for oneself and others;
- satisfaction of one’s own selfish needs;
- sound assessment of labor results;
- desire for development.
In order for a business to generate income, the offered product or service must be of high quality, otherwise the product will not be in demand. Even good advertising will not fix the situation. Today, the buyer is becoming more demanding and does not agree to pay for low quality goods.
As for the motivation to work, it’s more and more difficult to find those who want to work “for the common good”. Much more relevant is the saying "what you pay is what you get."
Everyone who’s considering becoming an entrepreneur should understand that his task is to motivate his future employees to make a quality product. The best motivation is decent salary and possibility of self-realization for everyone.
Only the work done must be paid. It does not make sense to keep a staff member who is fulfilling his duties on the principle of “just to be left behind”. At the same time, a person who is interested in the business and is striving for the development of the project will do a lot to increase the company's income. But only on condition that he himself will extract high profits from the results of his work.
Any criticism should be considered, defects are to be corrected. Payment is not supposed for unscrupulous work. But fines and deprivation of bonuses should not be presented as a punishment, but as a motivation to improve, and, accordingly, raise one’s income.
Having motivation in the form of money, employees will strive to work as best as possible. Product quality will grow. Demand among consumers will increase. Business will be profitable.
Altruism is not an engine of progress. On the contrary, this worldview leads to degradation. Altruism does not preach a humane attitude to man, but disrespects his work and condemns the natural human desire to live better. Healthy egoism and reasonable criticism are the foundation of prosperity and development.
